Ransomware cyberattack paralyses activity at Hospital Clínic in Barcelona

The Hospital Clínic in Barcelona has been the victim of a ransomware-type computer attack, as notified by the health institution to the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency. The incident affected the normal functioning of the emergency department, laboratory and pharmacy, forcing them to carry out computer procedures by hand.

Those responsible for the cyberattack have demanded a ransom of 4.5 million dollars for the encrypted information, which constitutes about 4.5 TB, but the government has stated in one of its communiqués that it will not make such a payment.

The hospital has gradually recovered its activity, so far restoring 40% of surgical activity and 70% of outpatient consultations.
