UK agency, UKRI, suffers ransomware incident

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the national funding agency that invests in science and research in the United Kingdom, has been hit by a ransomware-type cyberattack.

As detailed in the official statement, the functions affected are the UK Research Office (UKRO) portal and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) extranet.

The agency has suspended the affected functions and services in order to facilitate the investigation and protect users, and has contacted the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to inform them of the incident.
