Cyberattack paralyzes distribution of United Natural Foods food products
United Natural Foods (UNFI), the largest food distributor in the United States and Canada, specialising in natural, organic and speciality products, as well as conventional foods, has been forced to shut down some of its systems after detecting a recent cyberattack on 5 June 2025.
On the 9th, UNFI issued a notice saying that the cyberattack affected orders from its customers and caused temporary disruptions to business operations. This release came after, on forums and social media, users alerted that the company's systems were down and employees were having their shifts cancelled.
Since the discovery of the security breach, UNFI has notified the relevant law enforcement authorities and has engaged external cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. UNFI has also taken steps to try to maintain continuity of customer service by implementing interim measures until the affected systems are restored.
A few weeks later, on June 26, UNFI has notified that it has now restored its critical systems and brought the online ordering and billing systems affected by a cyber-attack back online.
So far, UNFI has not yet disclosed the nature of the attack or whether any cybercrime group has claimed responsibility for the breach. Even so, the company does not plan to send any notifications or statements to consumers, as the company has stated that the security of customers or employees personal information has not been compromised.
