The main Danish news agency, Ritzau, is paralysed by ransomware

Ritzau, the largest news agency in Denmark, has become the target of a ransomware cyberattack and has refused to pay for recovering its encrypted systems and data.

The incident took place on Tuesday 24th of November and affected a quarter of its more than 100 servers, according to the company's CEO, resulting in the shutdown of its editorial systems. However, the company kept its news service, using an emergency system made up of six live editorial blogs to publish news.

Ritzau's IT department continues to work on restoring all systems, with the help of specialists. The web service for news distribution to customers is now online and active, but the news application is not yet.
