International operation dismantles cyberscam organisation

The Spanish National Police and the US Secret Service, with the support of EUROJUST, have dismantled in Madrid an international network of cybercriminals, made up of nine members, who stole more than 5 million euros from US individuals and companies, controlling more than a hundred bank accounts.

Those investigated collected sensitive data from the victims by means of social engineering, phishing and smishing techniques in order to subsequently telephone the victims (vishing) masking the calls (spoofing), with the aim of obtaining the rest of the necessary information, generally related to their financial assets, in order to carry out their scams.
