2.4 million users most affected by the attack on Equifax

Equifax adds 2.4 million affected users to the 145 million reported in September of last year.

The stolen information is the name and the partial number of the driver's license, but in no case was the Social Security number exposed.

The company has reported that it will contact all new identified users and offer them free services against identity theft and financial control.

[Update 16/05/2019]: Equifax’s latest earnings release tallies the costs associated with its 2017 cybersecurity incident at over $1.4 billion, which includes technology investments, professional services, staffing, regulatory sanctions, legal fees, and more. The costs also include the free credit monitoring services offered to those affected, following the incident.

[Update 23/07/2019]: It is known that Equifax intends to sign an agreement with the US authorities committing to pay a fine of 700 million dollars. This agreement is also intended to resolve the class action lawsuit filed by the affected parties. The agreement would also indicate that the company must make changes in the way it handles and protects the data of its users.
