5400 rpm hard disks vulnerable to sound frequencies in a song

Raymond Chen, a software engineer at Microsoft, has published a post with information about a vulnerability that is capable of crashing certain laptop models when playing certain sound frequencies, specifically 5400 rpm hard disks.

This vulnerability, resolved by adding a custom filter to the audio line, has been evidenced by playing a specific song (Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson), which contains one of the natural resonance frequencies that cause the vulnerability in the affected hard disk models, and which could cause failures both in the computer playing the sound and in other computers nearby that receive the sound waves that cause the vulnerability, such as those used in that song.
