AEPD punishes Google for collecting personal data without consent

The proceedings against Google since 2010 have resulted in a fine of 300,000 euros imposed by the Spanish Data Protection Agency.

This legal proceeding is due to the collection and processing of personal data without consent, through open WiFi networks, collected by Google's Street View project. The data collected included email addresses with their corresponding access credentials, IP addresses, MAC addresses of routers and the devices connected to them, and wireless network names (SSIDs) that contained first and last names.

Sources of the company state their willingness to pay the fine and to cooperate with the agency during these seven years. They also ensure that the problem located on their systems has been fixed and does not currently affect the Street View service.
