The Civil Guard in Segovia dismantles a network of Internet fraudsters

The Civil Guard of Segovia has dismantled an organization that swindled more than 112,000 euros, using the Business Email Compromise (BEC) method, from a company in Zarzuela del Monte, and has arrested four people.

The investigation began in October 2022 when a company from Zarzuela del Monte reported having received falsified invoices corresponding to the months of May, June, July and August, via email.

After the analysis of numerous financial information and the interpretation of communications between the different members of the organization, it was found that this network used very sophisticated communication methods to avoid being identified and arrested. In addition, this organization employed 'mules', i.e. people who consciously or unconsciously facilitated the laundering of illicit proceeds.
