Cyberattack against IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported in February that a cyberattack compromised 11 email accounts. The investigation determined the scope of the incident and corrective action was taken. Those affected reported that the executive director and her management team were not attacked. The IMF did not disclose details about the perpetrators or the information compromised for security reasons.

This is the first time the IMF has faced a cyberattack since 2011, when a state actor allegedly breached its systems. At the time, digital connections to the World Bank were severed to contain the damage. The incident was discovered by IT workers who noticed suspicious file transfers.
