Cyberattack on Mercado Libre exposes user data

Latin American e-commerce giant Mercado Libre has revealed that it suffered a cyber-attack that exposed the data of 300,000 customers. According to the company, the data stolen by hackers did not contain sensitive information such as payment details or passwords, saying it is taking "strict measures" to prevent further damage.

The attack has been claimed by the LAPSUS$ group, who took it upon themselves to viralise the action in an attempt to collect a ransom for the stolen data.
