Cyberattack at the opening ceremony of PyeongChang 2018

Members of the organizing committee have confirmed that during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics they suffered an attack that affected different services such as IPTV protocol televisions located in the press room or on their official website.

After the analysis, the technicians indicated that the objective of the attack was to cause the greatest possible damage to the systems of the Games using a malware designed to erase the essential services for the correct functioning of the same. According to McAfee researchers, the malware was also capable of collecting information.

The committee members indicated that no critical system was affected by the attack and that because they are conducting an investigation, they will not make any further statements at this time.
