Data leak at the Australian Department of Social Services

The Australian Department of Social Services has communicated with about 8,500 employees and former employees to inform them that their personal data, which was stored on a contractor's servers, had been the subject of a theft. The data, pertaining to the period between 2004 and 2015 and among which are numbers of credit cards, names, corporate telephone numbers, corporate emails and passwords among others, would have been stolen in the period between June 2016 and October 2017.

At the moment there is no evidence that the stolen data have been used, however, the vulnerability used to carry out the theft has already been solved and the data stored by the contractor on their servers are already insured.
