Deutsche Bank and its subsidiary Postbank suffer data breach

Deutsche Bank and its retail banking subsidiary Postbank suffered a data breach, which has affected an as yet unknown number of customers. Deutsche Bank reported that the personal data leak occurred at an external bank account switching services company affecting around 100 companies in more than 40 countries.

According to the German bank, these are customers who had used the account switching service in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. Those affected had been informed in writing asking them to check their accounts for suspicious debits or unusual activity.

The cause of the incident had been identified and repaired by the service provider and Deutsche Bank stated that its own systems were not affected at any time.
