Filtered information from millions of Bulgarian citizens

Christian Boykov, who was working as a researcher to prevent cyber attacks, has been arrested as allegedly responsible for leaking sensitive information from millions of Bulgarian citizens. He reportedly took advantage of serious security breaches by the NRA (National Revenue Agency), equivalent to the Ministry of Finance in Spain.

At the moment the technical details of the attack are not known. It is believed that the leaked information could be approximately 21Gb of information and that 70% of the population of Bulgaria would be affected. However, the Bulgarian government claims that only 3% of users were affected by the attack.

The leaked information contains the names, addresses, social security information and incomes of some 5 million residents of the country. In turn, the NRA faces fines of up to 20 million euros in connection with a possible breach of the GDPR.
