Improvements in digital security at the Autonomous University of Madrid Foundation following a cyberattack.
On October 17, 2025, the Autonomous University of Madrid Foundation (FUAM) was the victim of a cyberattack that affected the security of its computer systems. This attack was detected and confirmed by the institution shortly after it occurred, prompting immediate action to protect sensitive user information and restore normalcy to its digital services. FUAM publicly reported the incident and emphasized that it was working with the competent authorities to clarify the facts and ensure the safety of those affected.
The cyberattack compromised the Foundation's database, putting at risk the privacy of users who interact with its platforms, including those that offer administrative services such as payments and applications. To mitigate the damage, FUAM implemented a series of measures, including the temporary suspension of its digital platforms and the introduction of two-factor authentication (2FA) in its systems. In addition, it filed a complaint with the authorities and worked closely with the relevant agencies to investigate the origin and scope of the attack.
Currently, FUAM has managed to restore normal service, and its platforms are operating more securely thanks to the implementation of new preventive measures. However, the incident highlights the vulnerability of institutions to cyberattacks, which has led the Foundation to further strengthen its digital security infrastructure. In addition, the institution will continue to collaborate with the authorities and update users on any developments in the investigation.
