Information leak at Casio

Japanese electronics manufacturer Casio revealed unauthorised access to its data after cybercriminals accessed the servers of its ClassPad.net education platform.

Casio believes that the possibility of a third party gaining this access to the data was caused because some network security settings in the development environment were disabled, due to a system operational error by the department in charge and insufficient operational management.

The data displayed includes customer names, email addresses, countries of residence, service usage details and purchase information such as payment methods, licence codes and order details.

Further analysis showed that 91,921 of the data obtained belonged to Japanese customers (including 1,108 educational institutions) and 35,049 to customers in 148 different countries.
