Japanese pharmaceutical giant Eisai detects ransomware attack on its servers

Eisai Group detected a ransomware incident late on Saturday night, June 3, Japan time, that encrypted some of its servers. Following the detection, the company implemented its incident response plan, which involved taking systems offline to contain the attack and subsequently launching an investigation with the help of its cybersecurity partners.

The attack affected servers both in Japan and overseas, including logistics systems, which had to be taken offline. However, corporate websites and communications continued to function. The company also stated that it had not paid the hackers, whose identity is still unknown, and that they are still analyzing the full scope of the attack, including the possible financial implications.
