Millions of Android used to mine cryptocurrencies

Researcher Jérôme Segura of Malwarebytes Labs has published a report that shows that many websites have been used to mine Monero cryptocurrencies fraudulently.

All affected devices had an Android operating system and, when accessing certain malicious sites, they were redirected to advertising pages that used the device's CPU capacity to extract Monero cryptocurrencies. The mining process continued until the owner introduced a captcha code that stopped the mining process.

Malwarebytes Labs in collaboration with Dr. Augustine Fou discovered that more than 60 million visitors accessed malicious websites.
