Norsk Hydro metallurgical company suffers a ransomware cyber attack

The Norwegian metallurgical company Norsk Hydro has suffered, on March 19, 2019, an attack by a variety of ransomware called LockerGoga that encrypts files on Windows devices. As a result, both the corporate network and production processes at various facilities in Norway, Qatar, Brazil and other countries were affected.

As the company has stated in successive press releases, the incident has generated economic losses of around 36 million euros so far. Security and IT teams have isolated infected systems and used backups to recover information.

Norsk Hydro, which has a cyber-rises policy that must cover part of the damage, also announced that at no time did it intend to pay the ransom.
