Russia prohibits technologies that allow anonymous browsing via the Internet

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has enacted a law prohibiting anonymous Internet browsing through virtual private networks (VPN), and any other technology that allows it, for example, using the Tor browser. This law has been approved by the Duma and the Lower House of Parliament and shall enter into force on 1 November.

As expressed by the director of information policy committee of the Duma, the government will not limit the freedom of citizens in access to information available on the Internet but prevent access to illegal content.
