Security incident at Western Digital
Western Digital, a manufacturer of memory and hard drives, has suffered a cyber-attack, presumably of the ransomware type, against its servers that made it impossible for its customers to access the My Cloud cloud storage system.
Based on the investigation, the company claims that there was unauthorised access by a third party to some of the information on its systems. Once the incident was identified, the company initiated its response measures and also an investigation with the help of external forensic and security experts.
Those responsible for the attack claim in the media that they have stolen 10 TB of company data, including customer data, Western Digital executives' phone numbers, back-office data, among others.
