Supply disruption in Colonial Pipeline

Colonial Pipeline Co., a North American Company dedicated to transport refined petroleum products, has confirmed that it suffered from a ransomware cyberattack against its IT systems, forcing it to shut down the supply of its pipeline network located in the southern and eastern United States.

In response to this incident, the company began an investigation with an external cybersecurity firm to find the causes of the cyberattack and other means of transportation were used to alleviate the disruption.

The company continues to work with the US Department of Energy to restore all affected segments of the pipeline and the FBI has attributed responsibility to the cybercriminal group DarkSide.

[Update 13/08/2021] Colonial Pipeline has recently become aware of a data breach as a result of a cyber attack and is notifying all those affected that cyber criminals were able to access, collect and exfiltrate sensitive personal information.
