Travelex, currency exchange bureau from London, victim of a ransomware incident

The currency exchange bureau from London, Travelex, has been victim of a ransomware incident called Sodinokibi, known as Sodin or REvil as well.

The incident took place on December 31st, suspending all services and preventing any customer from making any card payments at its more than 1.500 shops across the world and other dependent companies.

In response to this, the company took offline all its computer systems to protect its customers’ data and prevent the spread of the virus.

Travelex has confirmed that any data has been compromised, but it still hasn’t been able to resume its activity normally and it only admits currency exchanges manually. The National Crime Agency and the Metropolitan Police in the UK carry on with the investigation.
