Unauthorised access to InterContinental´s systems

The British hotel group InterContinental Hotels Group PLC has reported that parts of its technology systems have been subject to unauthorized activity, affecting its booking channels and other applications.

IHG states that it is working, in conjunction with its technology suppliers and external specialists, to restore the systems as quickly as possible and assess the nature, scope and impact of the incident. All this after informing the relevant regulatory authorities.

[Update 22/09/2022] The perpetrators of the cyberattack, a pair of crackers calling themselves TeaPea, have detailed that InterContinental Hotels Group used the text string "Qwerty1234" as a credential to access its password manager. For its part, the company has stated that the attackers had to bypass multiple layers of security, without going into further detail.
