Wells Fargo accidentally leak data from 50,000 clients

The financial company, Wells Fargo, accidentally leaked the personal data of 50,000 clients by mistakenly sending it to the lawyer of one of its former employees, who had filed a lawsuit against the company. The lawyer hoped to receive a selection of e-mails and documents regarding the claim, but instead received personal and financial information from its 50,000 richest clients. This information included the client names, their social security numbers, the size of their investment portfolios and the fees charged by the bank.

The lawyer reported the incident to attorney representative of Wells Fargo in the case, who requested the immediate return of the leaked data. The plaintiffs decided to retain it and study their legal rights and responsibilities in relation to such information.
