YouTube ads used to mine cryptocurrencies

Youtube ads have been used by malicious users to mine Monero cryptocurrencies without the consent of portal visitors, while reproducing the contents of the platform, in countries such as Italy, Spain, Taiwan, Japan and France.

The attackers used Google's DoubleClick ad serving service to show ads with Coinhive's JavaScript code added. According to Trend Micro researchers, this caused an increase of almost 285% in the number of miners in this cryptocurrency.

Google blocked these ads as soon as they were notified.
