On July 25, 2025, a security breach in the Tea app's storage system has exposed thousands of images of its users registered before February 2024. Tea is an app designed for women to anonymously share dating experiences and report inappropriate behavior. It also offers a criminal background check service, phone number search, and a registry of sex offenders in the United States.

The incident affected more than 33,000 women. The leaked dataset includes approximately 72,000 images, including some 13,000 selfies and ID photos submitted by users during account verification, as well as 59,000 images extracted from posts, private messages, and comments within the platform.

Days later, it was discovered that users' private data was being rapidly disseminated across various forums, social networks, and applications. Maps were even created showing the exact locations of the women affected, revealing their home addresses and workplaces.

Meanwhile, Tea has notified the authorities and hired external cybersecurity entities to protect its systems. It is also implementing additional security measures to try to address the causes of the leak and determine the nature and scope of the information involved in the incident.
