Optus cyberattack compromises user data

Optus, Australia's second largest telecommunications company, suffered a cyberattack at the end of September. The company is investigating unauthorised access to customer and ex-customer information.

The company, as detailed in its official statement, has sent emails or SMS messages to all customers whose ID numbers were compromised as a result of the cyberattack.

In total, the criminals accessed approximately 9.8 million confidential customer data, including telephone numbers, dates of birth, mailing addresses, passport and other information.
