Russian citizen, administrator of a botnet, is convicted of his crimes

Aleksandr Brovko, a Russian cybercriminal, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for trafficking and stealing sensitive personal and financial information from US citizens, worth over $100 million in losses.

The sentence, handed down by the US Department of Justice, took place on 30 October 2020 but Aleksandr had already pleaded guilty in February of the same year to conspiracy to commit banking and electronic fraud, after being arrested in an anti-botnet operation.

The cybercriminal owned a botnet with more than 200,000 infected devices and at the same time he was an active member of several online forums where he gathered and exchanged his criminal tools and services.
