US Police data leak
Thousands of confidential files from more than 200 police departments, training resources and intelligence centers, including police and FBI reports, were released on Friday June 19 by DDoSecrets (Distributed Denial of Secrets), a self-proclaimed transparency collective that publishes covert data, in a data collection called BlueLeaks.
DDoSecrets reported on Twitter, through an account that is already suspended, which has ten years of data, which corresponds to almost 270 GB of information. Documents include names, email addresses, phone numbers, PDF documents, images, and large number of text, video, CSV, and ZIP files.
A report by KrebsOnSecurity, which was the first outlet to break the news, indicates that the leak could stem from a data breach at Houston-based web development company Netsential, which maintains a series of data-sharing portals for the state police.
